1. Where are you based?
I am based in Sea Point, Cape Town.
2. Are you willing to travel?
I’d love to hear where you are wanting to have a shoot done. Extra costs for travel would apply but this can be discussed when we get to the point of booking a shoot.
3. When do you schedule portrait sessions?
I schedule natural light sessions either early morning or two hours before sunset when the sun is nice & soft. The start time of evening sessions depends on what time of the year it is.
4. How do we book a session?
Check out my “contact” section and shoot me an email. Together we will work out all the details. Let me know your preferred time frame (AM or PM) & I will let you know what is open. Within 7 days of booking I will need your deposit & contract to secure the date.
5. How long is a session typically?
Each shoot is individual and the length of a session varies depending on the day, weather and persons involved. Typically a family shoot can take up to 1.5hours, a maternity shoot the same and newborn shoots can take up to 3 hours.
6. Can we / a another family member take photos during the shoot?
I ask that no other photos are taken for the duration of the shoot.
7. What are your fees?
Please refer to my rates tab.
8. What do we get ?
You get my undivided, creative attention, high quality images edited individually. I strive to provide you with the best images. The amount of images totally depends on the flow and circumstances of the shoot and therefore the amount of images provided may vary. If proximity allows for it, I meet up with you to plan for and prep for the shoot.
Once editing is completed, you will receive a link to an online gallery post the shoot. These photos can be downloaded in full or low resolution (for social media) and contains my watermark.
I either deliver or post a cd to you with fully edited, full resolution images alongs with formatted images you can use for social media. These photos will not contain my watermark. I do however request that if you do post a photo from the cd on any social media that you please make reference to myself as the photographer.
9. Who owns the copyright of the photos?
I own the copyright of the photos. This implies that editing or altering of photos in any way, selling, re-producing or claiming of photographs as own work is a not allowed.
10. When do we receive our photos?
Lots of thought goes into the editing process. You’d be amazed at how long I sit in behind my computer reviewing and retouching each image. It’s not because the pictures need help, it’s because I have a vision of exactly how I want them to be changed through out the editing process & I am meticulous until I get there. I like to put my loving edit into each picture that goes on your gallery without batch editing. It could take up to 2 weeks to complete the editing phase. Please know that I am working on it as quick as I can. Thanks for your patience!
11. What forms of payment do you accept?
I request an EFT transfer with proof of transfer mailed to me. Deposits are needed 14 days prior to a booked date to secure the shoot. The balance is due 5 days before the planned shoot.
12. What do you edit ?
I do minor retouching. This could be improving color saturation or vibrance, brightness contrast or if needed, removing a distraction in the background. On your request I can edit out some blemishes, scars, redness etc, but please note that I do not do “plastic surgery” editing.
13. What do we wear for the shoot?
Please refer to my section “ what to wear guide” under the FAQ tab.
14. When do we book a shoot for our newborn?
It depends on weather you are wanting posed or lifestyle shots. The best time for a posed newborn session is within the first 14 days as babies tend to be very sleepy and “mold-able”.
15. What is the best time to do a maternity shoot?
The best time to do a maternity shoot is from week 32/33 when the bump is showing well up until week 36. I have found that after week 36, moms to be are tired and not as “mobile” as they were.
Should you wish for a maternity shoot after your 36th week of pregnancy then I am more than happy to proceed. I just like to keep the well being of mom and baby in mind.
16. How will we get my young children to cooperate?
If you toddler or children are as energetic as my 3 year old then I can imagine you asking yourself “ how are we going to get them to sit or stand still for more than 2 seconds”?
With your help, I can get some amazing photographs of your active children! Between the ages of 2 and 6 children can feel pressured and self-conscious, and therefore not keen to cooperate. I have found there are a few important things that can help:
-
Be sure that young children are well rest. Planning a nap before our session may be a good idea.
-
At the session, its best to not ask their permission or give them choices about what we need them to do. For example: “Do you want to sit over here now and have a picture taken?” We all accidentally want to do this in hope that they will happily say, “Yes! But this also gives them the chance to say “No! If you say little and simply allow me to gently direct you will find that they will want to sit with you, which is the shot I take first, and before they know it, they have relaxed and are enjoying themselves!
-
Also, if your chil does not respond well to pressure, it may be best to avoid talking about the session a lot before hand. A big build up may make them nervous about what is expected of them.
-
Bring along a couple favorite toys and snacks (please refrain from lollipops as these are very prominent in shots). I will have some little “take home prizes” for kids under 6. (you can tell them that!) .
-
Taking breaks during the session will help them to re-focus. I can also get some great shots of them just playing around.
17. What if the weather is bad on the day we have our shoot planned?
We will keep in contact up till and hour or two before your planned shoot and if the weather is not playing along, we can re-schedule.
18. What happens if one of us falls ill before the shoot?
I will gladly re-schedule for you.
If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
